The story is set in 1920, during the Dutch East Indies era, Stovia University produced native medical graduates. The story begins with a young doctor, a Stovia graduate, named Giandra (Aditya Zoni), reading the Javasche Courant newspaper about a girl in Karuhun village who was shackled. At that time, shackling was part of the way to cure mental illness.
